Galleria Park Hotel Review: Travel in U.S.A., San Francisco

The first time I heard the term "boutique hotel" I had no idea what it meant. That was years ago when I first visited San Francisco. I discovered boutique hotels to be smaller, more intimate brands than their big name competitors. Typically, a boutique hotel has stylish furnishings with a welcoming and comfortable feel. Since my first visit to a boutique hotel, I was impressed enough that I always look for these types of hotels whenever I visit large cities.

My search for boutique hotels in San Francisco, California led me to the Galleria Park Hotel. From the outside, the Galleria Park doesn't look like anything special. If it weren't for the sign on the sidewalk, it would be hard to tell it was even a hotel. However, don't let that fool you.
The moment I walked in, I knew the Galleria Park Hotel was special. From the warm, inviting fire to the comfortable and trendy lobby, I felt like a valued guest right from the start.

When my mom and I arrived at the hotel for our four night stay, the complimentary wine hour was just beginning. Though I don't drink wine, I was impressed with the service those who enjoyed it received. I was wishing that they would have had a few diet cokes on hand for those of us who don't drink wine. Judging by the number of guests mingling in the lobby, it was a much appreciated touch and I'm sure I was the only one wishing for a soda.

Joel W. checked us in and though the lobby was busy, he was fully attentive to all of our needs. In fact, throughout our stay, Joel provided exemplary service that went far above what I've received at more expensive hotels. A strong five star service from all of the staff members.

Usually with boutique hotels, I expect my room to be on the small side. However, I was pleasantly surprised by our room. Though it wasn't large, it was tastefully decorated with a warm, like home feel. I was especially grateful for the small refrigerator to keep drinks and snacks. The hotel also keeps the room stocked with drinks and snacks for a fee. With a Walgreens nearby, we didn't use the room snacks, but it is a nice touch. The bathroom was small, but very clean. I was impressed with the green efforts of the hotel which is most evident in the bathroom. As far as the hotel shampoo and conditioner goes, I would usually not mention it, but the brand they used was a step above what most hotels use and I ended up liking it more than what I brought. The maid  replaced it every day and left an extra bottle for my mom. I loved having free WiFi in the room. So many hotels charge per day for internet use, but I was able to get on free and write some blog posts while I was there.

There aren't a lot of extra facilities at the hotel which is not unusual for a boutique hotel. The exercise room has a treadmill, an elliptical machine, an exercise bike and a few weights. I used the elliptical machine one day and decided running along the wharf was more fun anyway. The jewel at the Galleria Park hotel is the outdoor garden and walking/running path. It's very beautiful and well maintained.

I loved the location of the Galleria Park. Near Union Square and the Financial District, we were literally blocks from attractions like China Town and upscale shopping. We were also near public transportation, which was easy to navigate to Fisherman's Wharf. I couldn't have asked for a better spot. There are also plenty of restaurants and cafes nearby.

I would definitely return to the Galleria Park Hotel, which is one of the Joie de Vivre hotels.  With such an excellent staff and well maintained rooms and facilities, there is nothing I didn't like. I hope to check out some of their other hotels someday. I highly recommend the Galleria Park Hotel for a visit to San Francisco.
