I admit it. I haven't had grape licorice since I was a kid and that was long time ago. I wasn't even sure I liked grape licorice.
I've always been a fan of Welch's Grape Jelly, but somehow a jelly filled licorice didn't sound appealing. It's a good thing I didn't listen to myself talk because both Welch's Jelly Filled Licorce flavors were a sweet surprise.
The grape flavored licorice is not as sickening sweet as I imagined. It was soft with a subtle filling. Filling was not sticky like the jelly I expected. In fact, I liked the grape a bit better than the strawberry flavor. I would definitely eat it again.
The strawberry was also soft and fresh. There is just enough filling to give it a boost of extra strawberry. The only disappointing thing about both flavors is they were gone much too quickly.
There are only a few pieces in each bag which really is a fair amount for what you get, but who can fault me for wanting more. I promised to let my son try them so I had to begrudgingly let him try them as well. His take was the same as mine. He told me he didn't think he would like them (he's a chocolate lover like me), but admitted that they were both pretty good. I asked him what flavor he liked best and he told me he liked them both the same. The only thing he didn't like was having to share.
Check out Welch's Filled Licorice at www.frankfordcandy.com. I recommend putting away any preconceived ideas about how they might taste and give them a try. We will definitely try them again.

I guess I live in the dark ages, because I have never heard of this product before, but I do love Welch's jelly and I love licorice so I'll have to look for these. Nice treat for my grandchildren. Thanks for the tip.
