With MexAmerica, I finally found a brand that has everything I am looking for. My husband and I have made a conscious effort to switch to whole grain products. MexAmerica's 100% whole wheat tortillas with honey not only gave use the whole grain we were looking for, but also the pleasant hint of honey. We loved these for tacos. Of course our teenage sons would rather eat white flour foods no matter how much we try to serve them whole grains. The traditional white flour tortillas were perfect for my boys. I was impressed that MexAmerica satisfied all of my family's taste buds. What I really liked about the MexAmerica tortillas is how thick they were. They did not stick to each other. While I was warming them, I had very little problems with the tortillas sticking to the pan.
MexAmerica has a corn tortilla option we tried as well. My daughter is gluten intolerant, so adding corn tortillas to our family dinner is perfect. That way I can still make the same dinner for her and just change the tortilla. No need to cook an entirely different meal. One thing my family loves to do is make chips with the corn tortillas. We cut them into fourths, sprinkle a little bit of vegetable oil on them, add salt and bake them on 350 in the oven until they are crispy. As long as you don't use too much oil, this is a great option for low fat chips and they are very tasty. I like corn tortillas more than flour tortillas and MexAmerica's corn tortillas are high quality and delicious.
I am always looking for healthier food options. I was impressed when I read that Fitness Magazine named MexAmerica Foods as the healthiest tortilla. Not only did I have whole grain, and gluten free options, but I also had tortillas that were low in saturated fat.
I got the most excited about the MexAmerica wraps. We love to put salads and sandwich foods in wraps. I tried the Savory Garlic and Herb Wraps. The hardest thing for me was deciding what to make in them. I wanted to use the Ceaser Salad wrap recipe on the back, but opted to use some leftover chicken in my refrigerator instead. With a few ingredients I had at home, I whipped up my own recipe. This is what I did:
10 oz. Shredded Chicken (I used leftovers)
1 15 oz. can Cream of Chicken Soup
1 4 oz. can diced green chilis
grated cheese to taste
Add 1/3 can cream of chicken soup and can of green chilis to shredded chicken. Fill wraps with meat sauce. Sprinkle 2 teas. of grated cheese on meat sauce and roll. Place in pan. Cover with the rest of the cream of chicken soup and sprinkle with cheese. (We don't use a lot of cheese as you can see by my photo.) Bake at 350 for 30 minutes. Serves 4
My family loved the flavor the herb and garlic wraps added to our meal and I saved two of them so I could make a turkey wrap for lunch the next day. It was nice to be able to use leftovers and some of the random canned foods we had laying around our house. It was truly a new meal and didn't seem like leftovers at all.
MedAmerica has tons of recipes on their Facebook Page. The Crab Salad Basket sounds delicious and can be found on their website or a link from Facebook. One thing about MexAmerica, you don't have to like Mexican food to like their tortillas. I love the versatility of tortillas and wraps and think you will too. The best part is that good tortillas don't have to be made in Mexico. MexAmerica makes their great tortillas in Pennsylvania. Yay for Made in U.S.A.
MexAmerica has generously offered one of my lucky readers their own MexAmerica Prize Package which includes a variety of tortillas and maybe even wrap.
