Review: Alpha Hydrox© Enhanced Lotion

         Alpha Hydrox© Anti-Wrinkle

I admit it! I am no spring chicken. My skin has endured years of abuse from too much sun to not enough personal care. I sometimes wonder if I will ever be able to reverse the damage caused by years of neglect when I thought my body and skin were invincible. If only I had taken skin care seriously in my twenties.
The two biggest things that bother me about my face are the dark spots from the sun and the fine wrinkles around my eyes. I have to admit, I'm always looking for that magical product that will make those things disappear. I've never tried a product with glycolic acid. I was excited to finally give it a try with Alpha Hydrox Enhanced Lotion 10% Glycolic AHA for anti-wrinkle from Neoteric Cosmetics.

I have normal to dry skin, but it gets extra dry this time of year. I was worried what the glycolic AHA would feel like on my dry skin. In fact, the first time I used the Alpha Hydrox Enhanced Lotion, it made my skin tingle and sting, so much so that I almost gave up using it again. Luckily, I read that this is a normal reaction to the product and that with continued use, that feeling would go away. I stuck with it for two weeks and after that time, I can honestly say it doesn't sting as much as it did when I first used it.  I'm glad I stuck it out.

What I learned from using Alpha Hydrox is that the glycolic acid is the same thing dermatologists use for chemical peels. The at home use of the glycolic AHA in the Alpha Hydrox is a lower concentration that what is used in a doctor's office, but the highest available without a prescription. With the 10% solution of the glycolic AHA, I could use the Alpha Hydrox every day without skin irritation. Once I got past that initial stinging the first few days, I grew to like the product. It exfoliated and penetrated my skin well. I used my regular day and night cream over the top of it, which soothed my face and left it feeling soft. I didn't want to try all new products at the same time so I just added the Alpha Hydrox. That way, I could really tell if the new product was helping or not.

While I didn't notice a huge change in my dark spots or wrinkles, I noticed a subtle improvement in my overall skin tone. I definitely think it will be worth the continued use over a longer term to see if my skin will continue to get brighter and my skin tone more even.

In my quest to find new and improved skin care, I find myself buying a lot of expensive products that don't necessarily work as well as their less expensive counterparts. My favorite thing about the Alpha Hydrox Enhanced Lotion is that it is a good value compared to other products and works as well or better than many of them. At $10.99 for a 6 oz. bottle, I can have enough money left over to try additional Alpha Hydrox products. Alpha Hydrox is made in the U.S.A.

  2. I did not experience any redness or dry patches after first use but if you have really sensitive skin, I would suggest trying it on a small area first.

  3. Thank you for your answer! I dont have really sensitive skin but i used salycilic acid 20% before 2 years and it gave me a little redness in chin area and on the forehead over my face. But it went away some days later....
A last question... Does this product even/brighten your skin tone?

  4. I did experience a little redness on my chin after a few weeks but seemed to go away after extended use and with the use of an additional moisturizer. I didn't notice a huge change in the brightness of my skin tone but rather a small, subtle change. I don't love the continued use of salicylic acid but don't mind using it a few days a week. If you like salicylic acid and/or can tolerate it, this product seems to be a little less expensive than others I've seen.

  6. I am back again!

I decided to give it a try.
First of all i didnt notice any tingle or sting on my skin. Neither redness or skin irritation. It was realy gentle on my skin and i think it works better as moisturizing lotion not as an exfoliator.
The next day my skin was really smooth and soft and i also notice a little improvement on my overall skin texture (and tone) but only a little... My few wrinkles seemed to be faded... Not a miracle product but not bad also. Perhaps it can give you better results with continuous use. Do you know any other product that can give really brighter skin and more even skin tone?

    1. I have tried a lot of skin care products. I usually end up disappointed mostly because those with scents tend to make my face itch. As far as this product goes, it seems to work the same as many others but at a better price. I haven't found any that are truly a miracle product. I currently use Neova products just because my workplace sells them and they are unscented which means I have no problem with them. However, they are pricey and for the cost, I am not sure they do better than other products. However, I really like some of their moisturizers.
As far as the Alpha Hydrox brand goes, I have only tried the product I reviewed so I can't comment on how their other products are. I am guessing that they are similar to this one, fair for the price but not exceptional. If you want to send me a direct email, I can go into more detail about what I've tried and what I like or don't like. Just go under the contact me button on the top of my blog page and you will find my email info.
